A total of 1852 aspirants submitted their nomination papers to contest the second phase of election in 117 upazila parishads of 52 districts within the deadline that expired on Sunday.
Of them, the data of 766 chairman aspirants, 682 vice chairman aspirants and 404 vice chairman aspirants reached the Election Commission Secretariat as of 10pm on Sunday.
On January 23, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the polls schedule for the 117 upazilas fixing the voting for February 27.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised on Tuesday, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 11.
Earlier, on January 19, the commission declared the first-phase election schedule for 102 upazilas with the voting date on February 19.
According to the EC plan, the countrywide 4th upazila election will be held by June next in six phases.
