The country’s remittances sent by migrant workers from abroad fell by 3.2% last month from the same period last year, largely owing to the five-day internet shutdown imposed to contain violence during the quota reform movement.

The inbound remittances were $1.97 billion in July 2023 and fell to $1.91 billion in July this year, confirmed Bangladesh Bank. Due to the internet outage, the third week of July this year saw the lowest remittance inflow compared with the other three weeks of the month.
