The ruling Awami League has announced that it will hold mass gatherings countrywide on Sunday.

The rallies will be organized in metropolitans, districts, and upazilas countrywide.

Besides, the party will also hold a mourning procession on Monday from the Engineers’ Institution to the Bangabandhu Bhaban in the capital.

Earlier, the party postponed Monday’s mourning procession.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the programmes at an emergency press conference at the Awami League President’s political office in Dhanmondi this afternoon.

Replying about the Awami League’s stance on the protesters’ call for a non-cooperation movement from Sunday, Quader said, “That is why we have called for a mass gathering.”

When asked if the government has invited the United Nations or any international organization for an investigation, he said, “The Prime Minister herself has repeatedly addressed this issue in her speeches. The UN has proposed, but they have not sent any official letter. We have agreed to their proposal.”

At the press conference, Awami League Presidium Member Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizational Secretaries Ahmad Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain, Advocate Afzal Hossain, and Sujit Roy Nandi, were present among others.
