BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that a change in power is not just a transfer of state power, it’s a qualitative change in the state and politics.
He said without ensuring the political and economic empowerment of the people, it is not possible to achieve the desired qualitative change in the state and politics. To ensure public participation in the desired state reforms and to make the democratic system sustainable, a government that is accountable to the people through their votes must be established.
Tarique Rahman made these remarks in a video message from London on Tuesday (August 20).
He further said to consolidate the spirit and objectives of a mass uprising, it is essential to bring the exiled anti-people forces to justice while ensuring the political and economic empowerment of the people. The primary tool for the political empowerment of the people is to ensure every citizen’s right to vote.
BNP’s Acting Chairman said that the path to ending 15 years of fascist rule has opened with the escape of Sheikh Hasina. Therefore, now is the time to establish an accountable democracy in the country. The humiliated, deprived, and disenfranchised people are eagerly waiting for a free, safe, and dignified life. Now is the time to build a safe and humane Bangladesh to fulfill the people’s expectations.
