Leaders of the Revolutionary Workers Party laid wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar on the 18th anniversary of the historic Phulbari uprising this morning (26 August 2024) paying tribute to the martyrs.

General Secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party Saiful Huq, Party Political Council Member Bahnishikha Jamali, Akbar Khan, Mir Mofazzal Hossain Moshtaq, Central Organizer Jamal Sikder, Advocate Faizur Rahman Munir, Dhaka Metropolitan Committee Member Jonaid Hossain and other leaders and workers of Dhaka Metropolitan Committee.

In the discussion meeting of Phulbari Day held at the party’s central office in Segunbagicha in the afternoon, the general secretary of the party said that the Phulbari coup was to protect the country’s national resources including coal resources and the 2024 students’ coup was to achieve people’s rights and freedom.

He said, just as there is a fear of counter-revolution after a revolution, there are attempts to thwart it even after a popular uprising. The reactionary fascist forces that were defeated after the August 5th student uprising are also making a comeback in many ways. He appealed to the countrymen to be vigilant against any sabotage and subversive activities against the student uprising. He said, the students are awake. Now they cannot be defeated.

He called upon the interim government to strengthen the national institutions and adopt the policy of extraction and appropriate use of national resources including coal gas.

The party’s Dhaka metropolitan committee president Mir Mofazzal Hossain Moshtaq presided over the meeting, among others the members of the party’s political council spoke.
