The High Court (HC) today issued a rule, asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why the court shall not order to provide Taka 10 crore in compensation to the family of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad, who was brutally killed by Chhatra League men in 2019 over his posts on Facebook.
A HC division bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam passed an interim order with the rule after holding hearing on a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Shahin Alam.
The court also ordered the Cabinet Division to form a probe commission in this regard.
Advocate Mahbub Morshed moved the plea before the court, while deputy attorney general Redwan Ahmed Rajib stood for the state.
BUET students and the varsity authorities found the seemingly lifeless body of Abrar, 22, on first-floor stairs of Sher-e-Bangla Hall and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead around 6.30 am on October 7, 2019.
He was brutally beaten to death by a couple of leaders of the then BUET unit of Chhatra League over his posts on Facebook.
