After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5 since then, cases have been filed in various police stations in the name of people particularly the journalists.
According to the DMP data, 248 murder cases were registered in the police stations of the capital in a month and a half from September 5 to 16.
The investigation revealed that most of the statements in these cases are similar. The first 10 to 20 accused are top leaders of Awami League and some influential police officials. In most of these cases, the plaintiff does not know the defendant; The accused never heard the name of the plaintiff.
A similar case took place in Dhaka’s Dohar police station on August 25. If the accused is traced based on the address in the declaration, it is known that the accused man in his 60s, who has no political identity, is one of the top businessmen of the country. He claimed that he had not visited Dohar in the last 10 years.
He also said, “I am doing business all my life, as such, we have affinity with those who are in the government.” But we do not do any politics, never did. A murder case has been registered against me, but I have not been to Dohar in the last 10 years. I don’t understand why. I will appeal to the government not to abuse us like this.
Shajahan Majhi is the plaintiff in the case in the name of 174 people including this industrialist. Most of whom he does not know. Then why did you file a case? In response to such a question, he told this representative that political cases do not know everyone, the names of those named by the leaders have been mentioned in the case.
On September 2, a similar case was registered in the capital’s Uttara Purba police station. The accused are several businessmen. The accused claims that it is intentional. Despite several attempts to contact the plaintiff Farida Yasmin, she could not be found.
However, barrister Shahed Azim fears that the real culprits may get away with such mass cases. This lawyer of the Supreme Court said, “We hope that there should be no case just because of different opinions.”
Police say no one will be punished without a crime.
In this regard, OC Habibur Rahman of Uttara Purba police station said that preliminary investigation should be done to find out who is guilty and who is innocent. As a result of the investigation, those who will be guilty and those who are innocent will be dropped from the case.
