Seven policemen including an officer-in-charge, were injured in a ‘gunfight’ with Indian terrorists along Songrampunji border area of Goainghat upazila of Sylhet district early Monday.
officer-in-charge of Goainghat Police Station Delwar Hossain Said.Acting on a tip off, a team of police conducted a drive in Songrampunji village around 3.30am, Sensing the presence of police, the terrorists opened fire at them prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.
At one stage, police arrested an alleged arms trader — Scaling Tariang, 32 –while his other associates managed to flee the scene.
Seven policemen including the OC were injured during the gunfight.
The law enforcers also recovered two pistols, one rifle, one slipper gun, six sharp weapons and 23 rounds of bullet from the spot.
10-day tourism fair begin in Sylhet on Sept 1
A 10-day tourism, health and handicaps fair will begin at Rikabibazar Gymnasium in Sylhet from September 1.
Association of Grassroots Women Entrepreneurs, Bangladesh is organising the fair.
The fair will remain open from 10 am to 10 pm on all the 10 days.
A total of 40 organisations, including tour operators and healthcare service providers, from India and Bangladesh are taking part in the fair.
During the fair, the participating organisations will offer special discount in airfares, tour packages and a host of other attractive offers to the visitors.
Visitors will get chance of free health checkup by specialist doctors at the fair.
