The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief so far has distributed Taka 4.52 crore as cash among the flood stricken people in 11 flood affected districts, according to a latest report provided by the ministry here today.

Under the relief distribution programme, Taka 82 lakh has been distributed in Feni, each Taka 75 lakh in Cumilla and Noakhali, Taka 45 lakh in Sylhet, each Taka 35 lakh in Chattogram and Habiganj, Taka 30 lakh in MoulviBazar and Lakhipur each, Taka 20 lakh in Cox’s Bazar, Taka 15 lakh in Brahmanbaria and Taka 10 lakh for Khagrachari district.

In addition to this, 20,650 tonnes of rice, 15000 packets dry food, baby food worth Taka 35 lakh and cattle feed equivalent to Taka 35 lakh have also been distributed in the flood affected districts.

Disaster Management and Relief Advisor Faruk E Azam has already visited the flood affected areas and relief distribution programme at Noakhali, Lakhipur, Chattogram and Feni districts.

Meanwhile, necessary instructions have been given to the concerned deputy commissioners of the flood affected districts to work in coordinated manner with the coordinators of Anti-discrimination student movement, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, RAB, Police Fire Services and Civil Defense, medical team and other volunteers organizations, the release added.

Around 54,64,167 people have been seriously affected due to the flood and more than 10 lakh families were marooned in 11 flood affected districts.

The devastating flood caused death of 54 people including six women and seven children. A total of 567 medical teams are working in the flood affected areas of 11 districts for providing health care services among the people.

Among the deceased, 14 are in Cumilla, 19 in Feni, six in Chattogram, eight in Noakhali, each one in Brahmanbaria, Lakhipur, Khagrachari and Moulvi Bazar and three in Cox’s Bazar.

The overall flood situation has improved in Sylhet, Habiganj and Chattogram districts, while 486 unions or municipalities under 64 upazilas have been inundated due to flood water.

In order to give shelter to the flood affected people, the government has opened a total of 3,269 flood shelter centers, where 4,69,687 people and more than 38,000 livestock have taken refuge.

The coordinators of the Anti-discrimination student movement have collected — some 1,15,105 packets of relief package — containing dry food, cloth and water — which already have been sent to the flood affected areas through the Department of Disaster Management(DDM), the release mentioned.

Besides this, the armed forces have also disbursed 1,94,285 packets relief and 19,260 packets cooked food among the flood affected people.
