Rongdhanu Group Director Mizanur lands in jail

A Dhaka court has sent Rongdhanu Group Director Md Mizanur Rahman Mizan to jail in a case filed for reportedly demanding Tk 5 crore as extortion.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saddam Hossain passed the order as police produced Mizanur Rahman, also former vice chairman of Rupganj Upazila, before the court on completion of his two-day remand.

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Mizanur from the Jamuna Future Park area in the capital on 17 September.

Later, police produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer whoever the court placed Mizanur on a two-day remand after hearing both sides.

Mahbub Rahman Modhu filed the case with Khilkhet Police Station on 30 April against eight individuals, including Mizan, for allegedly infiltrating properties owned by East-West Property Development Limited and City Multi Agricultural Company on 28 April.

Later, the accused assaulted three security guards of the East-West Property Development Limited and City Multi Agricultural Company and asked them to inform their bosses to pay Tk 5 crore as extortion.
