The Aachol Foundation which is a social youth-led organisation advocating mental health in Bangladesh has launched an awareness campaign at Jagannath University in the context of how to overcome mental disaster. On Monday, around 11.00 am, the campaign was held in the University campus.

Aachol Foundation said, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is one of the leading causes of suicide over university student. PTSD is a type of mental disorder that can occur in people who have experienced a natural disaster, a serious accident and where a large portion of them appear to be committing suicide at some point.

Chapter Co-ordinator of the Zone Foundation Afroza Jahan Tajin said, “The main objective of our campaign today was that lately we have noticed that many students suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) have survived the path of suicide. So we have this campaign today to make them aware of this. If a large proportion of suicides had not been affected by this disorder 1.6 percent of suicides would have been prevented. That is why the Aachol Foundation is organizing such a campaign to create awareness among all.

Bijan Barai, a lecturer in the psychology department of this university said, he who took part in the Aachol Foundation’s campaign, was directly responsible for the suicide with PTSD. So everyone should know what is PTSD and what are the reasons for this PTSD level? So I would say we need to do everything we can to make students aware of this.

For this, by organising such campaigns and seminars, everyone should be made aware. We always welcome such initiatives of Aachol Foundation on campus. If they want to do anything about the awareness of the students in the university, they will get maximum cooperation from the administration said Proctor Professor Mostafa Kamal.

Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Imdadul Haque said, participated in the campaign of the Area Foundation. “We don’t want any more students to be mentally disturbed and decide to commit suicide.” So we have set up a counseling center to help students mentally. We want everyone to participate. If the Aachol Foundation wants to work with our counseling center on student mental health, we will have the utmost cooperation.
