Henolux Managing Director Nurul Amin and his wife Fatema Amin have been arrested in connection with a case filed over death of a businessman following a suicidal attempt allegedly instigated by the duo.
A businessman, who set himself on fire on the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) premises on Monday out of frustration over a company’s refusal to pay back Tk 1.26 crore it borrowed from him, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning.
Gazi Anis, 50, breathed his last at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital around 6:10am, said Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of the institute.
The businessman, who was taken to the institute in a critical condition, was kept on life support, he said, adding that doctors tried their best but to no avail.
After hearing the news of the businessman’s death, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif visited the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
He said those who were responsible for the death will be brought to book.
Meanwhile, Henolux Group Managing Director Nurul Amin and his wife Fatema Amin were arrested from the capital’s Uttara area over the death of the businessman.
A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) picked them up in the evening, said Imran Khan, senior assistant director of RAB headquarters.
The couple was arrested after a case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station over the incident.
Victim’s brother Nazrul Islam lodged the case bringing charges of instigating his brother to commit suicide, said Moudud Howlader, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
He said the plaintiff mentioned in the case statement that Nurul Amin and Fatema took a big amount of money from his brother, but did not return it.
For not getting the money back, Anis got frustrated and committed suicide by setting himself on fire, said the OC.
Around 5:00pm on Monday, Anis, who was former president of Kushtia district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League and former member of district Awami League, set himself on fire on the JPC premises.
On May 31, Anis gave a status on his Facebook account that he invested Tk 1.26 crore in Henolux Group, which did not pay his money back.
