A day-long symposium on “Autism Research: Bangladesh Perspectives” was held today, July 16, 2022 at Prof. Kamaluddin Ahmad Lecture Gallery of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Dhaka University (DU). DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman addressed the symposium as chief guest. DU Neuroscience Research Center in association with the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology organized this event.
Director of Neuroscience Research Center of DU Prof. Dr. Md. Khalilur Rahman presided over the symposium while Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. A K M Mahbub Hasan, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Shahriar Nabi and Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Prof. Dr. Yearul Kabir addressed it as special guests.
Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Neurology of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Prof. Dr. Gopen Kumar Kundu and Professor of DU Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department Dr. Shamima Nasrin Shahed addressed the symposium as plenary speakers. Prof. Dr. A H M Nurun Nabi conducted the program.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the researchers to conduct collaborative research on autism. We have to work together to bring autistic children under the social safety network, he said. He stressed the need for undertaking comprehensive measures to make an inclusive society through connecting the autistic children with mainstream of our development.
He also emphasized on increasing more humane attitude towards autistic children to develop their mental faculties.
