Sylhet Agricultural University has become the first in the international ranking with 34 research institutes of Bangladesh on aquatic resources and fisheries.
A programme titled ‘Celebration of Achievement’ was organized on this occasion. The Faculty of Fisheries of the University organized this celebration on Tuesday, July 26 in the conference room of the Veterinary Faculty of the University. Prof. Dr. Md. Matiar Rahman Howlader, the vice-chancellor of the university attended the event virtually as chief guest. The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. Mrityunjoy Kunda, dean of the Faculty of Fisheries. Assistant professor of the department of coastal and marine fisheries Partho Protim Barman hosted the event.
“Celebration of Achievement” program convener Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mahbub Iqbal (Department of Fish Biology and Genetics) gave the welcome address on the occasion. Deans of various faculties, registrar, heads of departments and teachers and officials were also present.
Sylhet Agricultural University has ranked first among 34 universities in the country and 350th in the world in terms of aquatic science in the university category of the international ranking of the Spain-based SCImago Institution Ranking. This achievement was made possible by the research and hard work of the faculty members and students of the Faculty of Fisheries.
A book titled “Book of Abstracts” containing the abstracts of the research works of faculty and students published in various journals of the country and abroad was also published in this event. The publication was unveiled by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Matiar Rahman Howlader.
Since 2009, SCImago Institution Rankings (SIR) has been publishing an annual international ranking of research institutions worldwide. SCImago is a research organization based in Spain, who publish the annual international ranking of research institutes based on research results, international collaboration, natural impact and publication rate in the five categories of government, health, university and non-profit, based on 3 factors.
It should be noted that the Faculty of Fisheries Science of Sylhet Agricultural University, established in 2006, has progressed far in education and research. 44 teachers and researchers of the faculty worked day and night to create this position today.
