Police recovered a mobile phone and a knife believed to have been used to kill Bulbul Ahmed, a student at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
On Wednesday morning (July 27), police raided the home of Kamrul Islam, who was arrested in connection with Bulbul’s death. Sylhet (South) Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Azbahar Ali Sheikh confirmed the news and said “Bulbul’s mobile phone and a knife were seized from Kamrul’s house. The investigation is still ongoing.”
According to sources, Kamrul Islam lives in Tilagaon, not far from the university. He is a bricklayer by trade. On the night of Bulbul’s death, Kamrul was detained for interrogation. The police later ransacked his home. Meanwhile, a police source said that Kamrul said that three people were involved in the murder and admitted his involvement during interrogation.
The source also said that today the detainees may appear before the court.
A Bangla faculty student at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) who was with Bulbul when he was stabbed to death has been suspected of murder, police said yesterday.
Amina Parveen, SUST’s director of student counseling, mentioned that three masked men were involved in the murder, citing a student who was with Bulbul at the time of the incident.
On Monday evening (July 25), Bulbul Ahmed was stabbed to death by robbers on Gazikalur hill near the campus. He was a third-year student at the Faculty of Public Administration.
University registrar Muhammad Ishfaqul Hossain filed a lawsuit with the Jalalabad police station on Monday at midnight over the incident.
