The students and teachers of Jagannath University (JnU) have demanded appointment of vice-chancellor among the teaches of the university.

On Tuesday (20 August) at 11:30 pm The teachers and students brought out a procession demanding the appointment of new vice-chancellor within the university. The procession started from the Shaheed Minar and ended at the sculpture complex after passing through the Arts Building and the Science Faculty.

“At the time, the students chanted slogans.

Islamic studies department teachers Kamrul Islam Jewel and Atiyar Rahman, mass communication and journalism department associate professor Mithun Mia, social work department professor Dr. Mostafa Hasan, Associate Professor of Law Department Asaduzzaman Sadi and others and Professor of Geography and Environment Department Muhammad Abdul Quader and others participated in the procession

Mostafa Hasan, associate professor of the law department, Asaduzzaman Sadi, associate professor of the geography and environment department, among others, spoke on the occasion.

At that time, the teachers and students said that an ivice-chancellor should be given from Jagannath University. All types of students and teachers should be given such a vice-chancellor who will be able to stand beside the students by straightening the spine to stop politics. The lock will be hung on the main gate if the vice-chancellor comes from outside the job. They also announced not to provide any kind of cooperation to the foreign vice-chancellor at this time.

Riazul Islam, a student of the law department, said there is a qualified teacher society in JnU , but those teachers are being deprived again and again. From now ,all vice-chancellors, treasurers, registrars, proctors and administrative posts will have to appoint their own teachers. All teachers must be from the Jagannath university. We don’t want a VC (vice-chancellor) on rent, we don’t want a teacher-officer on rent. I want an independent VC (vice-chancellor) with such qualifications who can speak for the rights of students. Jnu students should be appointed to all posts from officer to section officer.

Masud Rana, a student of the physics department, said that if blood is needed to recruit a VC from this university, blood will be given. I won’t leave the field. There are many problems in this university. To solve this problem, they need to be recruited from their own university.

Asaduzzaman Sadi, associate professor of the law department, said the teachers have only been paid and no infrastructure has been developed in the university. The University has been under the rule of the East India Company for a long time. They have laid down some rules. The fate of the university has not changed. Now we want to develop our own university. We have a culture of our own university, that culture and rules will continue. Jagannath will no longer go by the culture and rules of DU.

Associate Professor, Department of History Belal Hossain said that even after 20 years, no structural development has taken place in Jagannath University. Nothing but a building. The reason behind this is the leadership crisis and the authority of the so-called East India Company. Everyone came from outside and performed their duties.

The university cannot be run by performing routine duties. After Dhaka University, Jagannath University has the highest number of students studying in Dhaka.

He further said that after coming as VC from DU, it took 3 months to understand who he was first. He then formed his own gang. That’s how a government is formed. This will not be allowed to happen this time.
