Home Ministry directs swift legal action on police complaint handling

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a directive stressing the need for immediate legal action in handling police complaints, warning against any delay in investigation and examination procedures.
In a circular dated August 21, 2024, signed by Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen, Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division, it was stated that the ministry has been informed through various complaints and media reports that some police stations are either refusing or delaying the acceptance of General Diaries (GD), First Information Reports (FIR), or cases.
The directive emphasizes, “Swift and necessary legal measures must be taken in such cases; investigation and examination processes must not be prolonged.”
The circular further states, “Bangladesh Police is a crucial institution for ensuring public safety. To restore its reputation, the police must swiftly investigate public complaints and take necessary legal actions.”
