Photo exhibition kicks off at CVASU

A three-day photography exhibition styled “History Speaks”begun at Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) yesterday.

CVASU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Goutom Buddha Das formally inaugurated the exhibition at CVASU Shahid Minar premises by igniting solemn candle around 11am.

The VC in his inaugural speech said the exhibition would help the visitors to know about the true and glorious history of our independence especially the wireless message in Chittagong, sent by the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman just on the eve of the proclamation of independence.

A total of 640 photographs on British rule, Liberation War, the birth of Pakistan on the basis of bi-nation theory, Bangabandhu, conspiracy against Father of nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his assassination, communal and political violence in Bangladesh, militant activities and movement of Hefazat-e-Islam, collected by Sahabuddin Majumdar are being showcased in the exhibition. The exhibition will remain open to all till evening on November 20.

VC of University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) Prof Dr Pravat Chandra Barua, CVASU registrar Mirza Faruk Imam, proctor Prof Goutom Kumar Debnath, students welfare director Prof Dr Mohammad Alamgir Hossain, assistant proctor Fahad Bik Kadir, deans of different faculties and heads of different departments, among others, were present on the occasion.

Ctg Peninsula chain in Dhaka soon

The annual general meeting and e-GM of the Peninsula Chittagong Ltd concluded at Chittagong club premises on Sunday . The meeting apprised the shareholders about the dividend and  new leased land in Dhaka for another Peninsula chain . The Hotel also enlisted with the stock market, said in the meeting. Among others Managing director of Peninsula Ltd Mostafa Tahsin Arshad, Director Ayesha Sultana, Director dr. Fasiul Alam were present in the AGM duly presided by the chairman of the hotel Mahbubur Rahman. Company Secretary Md. Nurul Azim conducted the meeting. The meeting was disclosed about the construction of Pensinsula Airport Garden hotel near Chittagong airport by 2018 next . The meeting approved the dividend of 10% for the share holders of the company, sources said.

Hanging body recovered from cotton godown

 Panchalaish thana police of CMP recovered a body of a women worker in hanging condition from a godown of  waste cotton . the body was hanging with the ceiling fan, police said. Police on sensing the information recovered the body and sent to Chittagong Medical Hospital for autopsy yesterday afternoon. The victim identified as Lipi Akhter (23) , wife of one Jahirul Islam alias Joy . Joy now in service at Maldives . Lipi hails from Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria who was serving in Base Textile Ltd as sewing operator, police sources said. Police lodged a UD case as suicide incident.
