Teachers and students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on Wednesday held demonstrations in protest of killing of Dr. Rejaul Karim Siddiki, a Professor of English Department of Rajshahi University, who was slaughtered by unidentified miscreant on last Saturday on his way of going campus.
They also demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for Professor Rejaul’s murderers.
Department of English of the University organized the program at the campus at around 12:00pm. They also formed a human chain in front of Central Library. Later, a silence procession paraded the campus thoroughfare where more than three hundred teachers and students took part.
They said killings like this would happen again and again if the culprits get away unpunished.
Professor Md. Ati ullah head of English department, Professor Himadri Sekhar Roy, Associate Professor Shahnaz Mahmud, Associate Professor Hossain Al Mamun spoke at the rally among others.
3 -storey building tilted
A 5-storey building tilted towards an adjacent building at Pirmoholla area of Sylhet City on Thursday.
Panic gripped the residents of the building as they took notice of the matter at about 8:00pm on Thursday.
SCC Official said on information, a firefighting unit visited the spot.
Councilor of 4no Word Razaul hasan Koyes Ludy said members of the fire service and SCC Official will have a further inspection of the building to decide whether the residents will be evacuated or not.
Dancer commits suicide
A dancer allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with ceiling fan in the metropolitan city’s Kajolshah area on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Subarna Saha, 30, a dancer and school teacher.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Thana said Subarna was killed herself by hanging herself with the ceiling fan around 8.00pm.
On information, police rushed in and recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, the OC added.
Police is now investigating the case.
