Devastating fire at a rice mill

Property worth Tk. half crore have been gutted when a devastating fire broke out in a rice
mill located at Sylhet Polytechnic Institute Road, South Surma in Southern Sylhet City at
around 8-30 p.m. Friday.
According to locals and Sylhet fire Brigade, at around 8-30 p.m. a devastating fire
suspected to be originated from electric short circuit within the rice mill mechanical
appliances. As the mill was closed owing to Friday leave as usual the labourers avail
themselves leave, the people dwelling at neighbouring areas, informed the Sylhet Fire
Brigade personnels of the incident. They rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire after
an hour’s endeavour. A 3-ton Truck, several hundred bags of rice including husked and
unhusked ones, mechanical appliance worth total Tk. at least 50 lakh have been gutted.
Land grabbers given mass beating: 4 nabbed and
seven motorcycles seized in Sylhet suburb
Four persons have been arrested and seven motorcycles have been seized when a group
of 25/30 land grabbers stormed into Lamargaon village under Kandigaon Union (Sylhet
city west suburb) of Sylhet Sadar Upazila on Friday afternoon.
It has been learnt that, Moulana Ibrahim Ali has been residing on his own paternal 47
decimals of land for over 50 years. Recently one Kasir Miah S/O Abdul Ali of
Kandirgaon village claimed a portion of land as per law of inheritance. Some days ago
Mr. Kasir Mia (52) lodged a complaint to village Panchayet (Arbitrary Committee) who
asked plaintiff Kasir and defendant Moulana Ibrahim to submit their documents marking
attestation to their ownership within two months. But surprisingly enough, on Friday
(Yesterday) the said Kasir and 25/30 terrorists riding on 15/20 motor cycles raided
Moulana Ibrahim’s house to have possession on the land. Hearing this, the villagers got
united and chased the land grabbers of whom Kasir himself, JCD worker Badsha Miah
(27) S/O Abdul Monaf of Kumargaon, Musharrof (20) S/O Imad Uddin of Mahmudabad
Colony and another unidentified one were caught red handed. The land grabbers left
away 7 motor cycles after being chased by the villagers who informed this of the
Jalalabad Thana from where Police personnels rushed to the spot and took the four
alleged land-grabbers prisoners and 7 motor cycles took to the Thana. A case has been
lodged with Jalalabad Thana in this connection.

its Destiny-2000 Chairman Mr. Mohammed Hussain, Destiny Group Chairman Mr.
Rafiqul Amin who have been arrested since long. They have been observing protest
programme for the last a few months as a part of their release movement today
