Transparency International, Bangladesh has urged the authorities concerned to ensure maximum ‘transparency and objectivity’ in the process of reconstituting the election commission to pave the way for making the next general elections neutral, fair and inclusive.
The TIB said it held the meeting marking its ‘Members Day’ where they discussed the steps taken by the president-formed search committee to choose prospective election commissioners.
“The final list of names the search committee will propose to the president as prospective election commissioners should be made be public to ensure transparency,” read the press release.
It said establishment of good governance and preventing corruption in the country largely depends on the activities of the election commission, a leading institution under the ‘National Integrity Strategy’.
The TIB also emphasised enactment of a law to appoint election commissioners as enshrined in the constitution of the republic.
