Dewan Atikur Rahman alias Akhi, chairman of Haripur union parishad and prime suspect of the attacks on Nasirnagar Hindus, has been suspended.
He was suspended in line with an order given by the Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) ministry on Monday.
Deputy Secretary Mahabubur Rahman confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.
He said that the suspension order dated on January 15 has reached the office of Brahmabbaria Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Nasirnagar Upazila Nirhabi (UNO).
On October 30 in 2016, some mobs demolished 22 Hindu temples and vandalised over 200 houses in the upazila following a Facebook post that allegedly hurt the religious sentiment of the Muslim community.
