A human chain and protest rally was held demanding the quick arrest of Shaon Mandal, the extortionist of Daulatdia Ghat in Goalando Upazila of Rajbari and the demand to stop all kinds of extortion in the Ghat area.

Nationalist Daulatdia Union and Ghat Sramik Dal organized this program at Daulatdia Launch Ghat area on Thursday.

Speakers in the human chain complained that Shaon Mandal created a reign of terror in Daulatdia Ghat area under the umbrella of Awami League. He used to collect 1500 rupees daily from the helpless rickshaw drivers of the ghat. Even after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, his violence did not decrease. A few days ago he went to collect subscriptions like any other day. But the rickshaw driver Miraj Sheikh stopped him saying that he will not pay him any more.

At that time, Shawon Mandal beat him severely and seriously injured him. Currently he is undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital. In this incident, a written complaint has been submitted to the police station on behalf of the family of the rickshaw driver Miraj. Shaon’s elder brother Feroze Sheikh said that Shaon and his people got angry and threatened to kill them. Md. Nurul Islam, president of Daulatdia Union and Ghat Sramik Dal, presided over the human chain and protest program.
