Extortion case filed against former state minister Mohib, his brother

Extortion case has been filed in the name of 25 people including former State Minister for Disaster and Relief Md. Mohibbur Rahman and his brother Mushfiq Mia, in Kalapara of Patuakhali, accusing them of demanding Tk 50 lakh extortion on Tuesday.
Mainuddin Dalal of West Dhulasar village of Dhulasar Union of Upazila filed this case at Mohipur police station as the plaintiff. The case also mentions 50/60 unidentified accused.
According to the case, on 2nd February 2024 State Minister was asked to pay a contribution of taka 50 lakh as the land established by the plaintiff including the school was not registered in the name of the former Minister of State. Due to non-payment of the demanded amount, all the defendants, including the anonymous defendants, on the instructions of the former Minister of State for Relief, demolished the half-finished tin shed house of the plaintiff with 6 rooms, 105 feet long, 21 feet wide and 10 feet high, and the boundary wall on all sides. 50 lakhs taka, causing damage the boundary wall and breaking iron gates, worth 25 thousand taka also damage.
Besides, the construction materials kept for the under-construction building on the same land, the estimated value of which is taka 8 lakh 60 thousand. When the accused were stopped, they beat the plaintiff severely with an iron rod and threatened to run away from the area. It has been mentioned in the case that the plaintiff could not take recourse to the law so far because the defendants were influential.
Md. Anwar Hossain Talukder, OC of Mohipur Police Station, admitted the fact of filing the case and said, “The operation is being conducted to arrest the accused.”
Earlier, Another case under Penal Code and Explosives Act has been filed at Kalapara police station in the name of Mohibbur Rahman and 51 Awami League leaders and activists for vandalizing BNP office. There are more than 100 unnamed defendants in the said case.
