Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had planned the construction work of Sheikh Hasina Stadium in Purbachal keeping the 2031 ICC ODI World Cup.

Farooq Ahmed, the newly appointed president of BCB, said that the financial affairs of BCB, including the stadium, will be investigated due to allegations of irregularities. At the same time, the tender process for the construction of the stadium has also been cancelled. After that today (Saturday) Farooq along with other officials of BCB visited Sheikh Hasina Stadium.

While visiting the BCB president’s stadium in Purbachle, he is accompanied by director Khaled Mahmud Sujan, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, Kazi Inam, new director Nazmul Abedin Fahim and BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Sujan.

Earlier, after the first BCB meeting on Thursday, President Farooq informed about the cancellation of the tender for the stadium and said, “It has been canceled because, you know, the ministry has a matter for such a big project. We didn’t get much of a yes or no from there. And since there is no time, tomorrow is the last day, so we had to do it (cancellation). If the situation improves, if we feel that something can be revised or not, then we will try to do something new.

Apart from this, it is known that the name of the stadium and the boat-like design will also be changed. It was also said at that time about visiting the stadium, ‘We are all going to see this field together. Because 100% of the money spent will not be available, because the project was very big. From there we will try to minimize the cost, if we can recover anything.

Suppose, if we can fix the original design of the two playgrounds, we will try that. It will also be seen that some money has been given to the consultancy firm, so that we get some return from there.
