BNP leader’s residence robbed in Kuakata, gold ornaments, cash looted

A brutal robbery took place at the residence of the municipal BNP leader and the owner of the residential hotel Roni in the tourist town of Kuakata under Patuakhali district.
The robbers tied up the owner of the house with a rope and looted cash and gold ornaments. Two persons were injured in the beating of the robbers. The incident happened around 2 o’clock on Monday night.
According to police and family sources, a group of 7-8 masked robbers entered the house of BNP ward secretary Manik Mia in Ward No. 4 on Monday night around 2 o’clock and tied the house owner Manik Mia with a rope and committed the robbery.
Victim Manik Mia claimed that the robbers brandished a pistol and took the key of the almirah of the house. And they opened the almirah and looted Tk 50,000 in cash, 15 pieces of gold jewellery, 4 Android mobile phones.
He and his wife were severely beaten and injured when they refused to hand over the keys to the almirah. However, he could not recognize the robbers as they were wearing masks. After the incident, a call was made to the Mohipur Thana Police, but the Thana Police did not receive the call. Later, the robbers were trapped before the locals came forward shouting their calls.
Mohipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain Talukder said, “We did not receive any call at night. Additional Superintendent of Police of Kalapara circle Bimal Krishna Mondal sir visited the spot after hearing about the incident in the morning. The police have started an investigation into the incident. Legal action will be taken.”
