Extortion case lodged against Shahriar Alam in Rajshahi

A case against former state minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam among 89 others has been lodged on charge of their alleged involvement in extortion in the district early this month.

Mukhlesur Rahman Mukul, a resident of Bagha upazila, lodged the case with Bagha Police Station today mentioning names of 39 people.

In his petition, Mukhlesur Mukul mentioned that the accused people intercepted him from going home and demanded a toll of Taka 10 lakh from him. When he refused to pay the money they snatched Taka 50,000 from him on August 3 last.

Mukul also pointed out that they also threatened him to kill if he raises the issue to public

Abu Bakker Siddique, Officer-in-Charge of Bagha Police Station, confirmed the topic saying they are trying to bring the accused to book as early as possible. He, however, said all of them now remained absconding.
