Passenger held with 107 gold bars at Sylhet Airport

Aviation security officers detained a passenger along with 107 gold bars at the Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Wednesday.
The gold bars were seized from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-252) arriving from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates by the airport’s aviation security officers and on-duty members of the National Security Intelligence (NSI).
Later, customs intelligence officers prepared a seizure list, according to airport sources.
The detained passenger, Ahmad Hussain, hails from Goramarakandi village in the Toakul Bazar area of Gowainghat upazila in Sylhet district.
According to airport sources, the passenger had bypassed customs intelligence personnel and crossed the green channel to reach the parking area. Later, the aviation security officers and NSI members stationed at Osmani Airport challenged him and brought him back to the green channel. Upon conducting a search, they found 107 gold bars wrapped inside a juice machine in his luggage.
