World Health Organization (WHO) organized Health Seminar on Mepox (formerly known as Monkeypox) in Sylhet. Sylhet Women’s Medical College Principal Prof. Dr. Shahana Ferdous Chowdhury chaired and Dr. Achira Bhattacharj presented a speech on empox disease in the seminar, Medicine Department Registrar Dr. Sayem Rahman, Microbiology Department Associate Professor Dr. Zilwatun Noor and Community Medicine Department Assistant Professor Dr. Syed Marjan Ahmed.

Prof. Dr. Fazlur Rahim Kaysa, Chairman of Holy Sylhet Holding Limited and Managing Director Prof. Dr. Md. Aays Ahmed Chowdhury, Head of Department of Medicine of Medical College Prof. Dr. Mahjuba Umme Salam, Head of Department of Microbiology Prof. Dr. Mohsina Khatun spoke in the seminar as expert panel members. Community Medicine Department Head Professor Dr. Ferdous Hasan Chowdhury, Medicine Department Professor Dr. Md. Ismail Patwari.

Speaking at the end of the question-and-answer session of the present doctors and teachers, Professor Dr. Fazlur Rahim Kaiser said – Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital will always be ready for the control and treatment of MPOX if necessary. Doctors should emphasize on creating awareness against the disease.

Professor Dr. Md. Aays Ahmed Chowdhury said – There is no alternative to preparing against this life-threatening empox disease. Different aspects of this disease need to be researched before it spreads.

In the President’s speech, Prof. Dr. Shahana Ferdous Chowdhury said – It is essential for every doctor to acquire special knowledge about the spread, prevention and treatment of empox disease. Specialist doctors should come forward to create awareness and determine possible actions against any epidemic disease. I believe that this seminar will play an important role in the wake of the World Health Organization’s emergency health alert.
