At least 20 people were injured during the ‘March for Justice’ programme as police charged batons on the protesting students in Barishal on Wednesday. Police also arrested at least 10 protesters.

The incident took place in front of the main gate of the city’s Ashwini Kumar Town Hall and Court premises between 11am and 1pm.

The students participated in this programme under the banner of the ‘anti-discrimination student movement’ demanding the realising of their nine points and the release of detained students along with the central coordinators of the quota reform movement.

Witnesses said, “Students of various educational institutions of Barishal participated spontaneously in the programme. Police, BGB and army dispersed them by obstructing them. Later, the students attempted to hold the ‘March for Justice’ programme by sitting at different places in the city.”

Barishal Police Commissioner Jehadul Islam stated, “We are handling the situation with patience. The situation is under our control.”
